The Pinnicles

The Pinnicles lie to the east of Woolamai beach and are made up of dramatic granite rock structures. The lines formed over thousands of years create beautiful patterns through these statuesque pillars. The Pinnacles at Phillip Island is an inspiring landscape and I have endless photos of this area. I decided to draw the cracks in the cliffs to see if it was enough information to show the ancient granite and how it has been worn away by the constant waves and wind that are prevalent here. The pinnacles sits as a beacon looking out to Bass Strait at the entrance to Western Port Bay. The red/orange has become a base for all my line work. Sometimes I change it but it appeals for its strength of contrast against the white while its brighter than a traditional black line and a little unexpected perhaps.
